i find that the medication gabapentin helps me with social anxiety and i have tried a lot of other mediocations but i get some memory disturbances. i get discouraged by this as i wonder if i might do something i might not normally do in these lapses. should i consider discussing stopping this medication with my doctor for this reason. final note-maybe if a medication is to help with a deep-rooted social phobia your going to have to put up with some side-effects. i guess people on phenelzine after trying ssris realise this sometimes too.

I to take this med and helps with social phobia and depression. I think the sides are worth the trade off right now.

Hi paulb / bulldog2
Are you taking gabapentin on a daily basis and long term (e.g. years)?
I'm considering asking my psychiatrist about gabapentin or pregabalin. I want to try either drug to help my chronic GAD, panic disorder and social phobia. Just trying to gauge other people's experiences with the two drugs.
Benzos, unfortunately, aren't a real long term option due to tolerance which I have developed.

I also have the tolerance in reverse now makes me tired. Also called lyrica it does develop tolerance. I wonder if alternating between benzos and lyrica might work? Phillipa

> Benzos, unfortunately, aren't a real long term option due to tolerance which I have developed.I take neurontin three doses of 1200 per dose three times in a day. I get a much different feeling than klonopin which is good for anxiety but blah for overall mood.. I do this with neurontin three times a week so it retains it's potency. For me a good ad and also good for anxiety. I'm generally grumpy and reclusive but on neurontin very socialable and enjoy talking to people. But only three times a week. On days I take neurontin don't need klonopin. Also sleep well on it. On my vacation I took neurontin 6 straight days and it worked well. Did kayaking and was very active. But I know people do build up a tolerance to it if used long term so if used 2-3 times a week works well. Have been doing this over a year.
