Hi all,
Does this make sense? My doc suggested replacing Seroquel (which I have had an impossible time trying to get off of) with Abilify. I'm not understanding this. don't they have different mechanisms of action with Seroquel being much more calming due to the antihistamine action at low doses? And Abilify would make you more agitated?
Any help appreciated!

Think it depends on the dose low being better my understanding. Any reason he wishes to switch you? Phillipa

Your right it won't replace seroquel. I tried getting off the zyprexa and on to abilify. What a mistake. Aggitated yes.

Hi Roslyn,
Abilify caused a surge in my anxiety. Some agitation too. The only positive thing is it was good for libido.
Indeed, I do find Seroquel to be much more calming.Maria

Did he say why he wanted to switch you?

This was at my request, due to Seroquel causing major cognitive difficulties and slowness.
But I don't know how Abilify would replace it. Certainly it won't help me sleep like Seroquel does.

Certainly it won't help me sleep like Seroquel does.If you were taking Seroquel just so you could feel calm and sleep better, then replacing it with Abilify doesn't make much sense. But if you were taking it for it's anti-psychotic properties, then it makes sense.

That resolved after several weeks and I actually sleep better on it than I did before. If you need help with sleep, I am wondering if there is something else you can use with the Abilify. Rozerem?

I'm just really afraid to try and taper off the Seroquel having only the Abilify as a replacement. I may wait until I see my doc next.

> RoslynnDon't do it, IMHO. I've seen them both in use, same family member, I'd fight to stay with Seroquel unless your PDOC's got a REALLY GOOD reason to switch. Again, my opinion only.
