Hi, I started one pill of 150 mg WB XL every morning two weeks ago. Mono AD for depression. Good response first week, now not very much. Should I increase to 300 mg or wait a little longer, any experiences?

Recommended dosing for Wellbutrin XL is 300mg. Starting dose is 150mg and maximum is 450mg. Talk to your prescribing doctor before making any dosage changes.

my experience was that 150mg helped a bit with concentration and not oversleeping so much, and with correcting sexual disfunction from the sris.
I didn't notice much difference with 300 vs 150 though. I noticed most of the effect within a week.

I think you will have to go up to 300-450 mg. I think the reason that you felt good for the first week is that it does give a burst of energy when you first start taking it.

Yes, I read about the boost it can give the first week. The theoretical therapeutic dosage seems to be 300 mg in the US and others. Here Wellbutrin is just approved (only XL). It says 150 mg for 4 weeks, and if not enough effect, increase to 300 mg could be considered. It is also stated that 300 mg has not in clinical trials demonstrated better effect than 150 mg. So I am still interested in more personal experiences, what is the therapeutic dosage for you?

0 for me seriously. It gave me such energy that I appeared manic to the pdoc at the time and ended up in the hospital. Australia? As hear it's only approved for stopping smoking there. Phillipa

Hi Linda--
I had an immediate boost when starting Wellbutrin, but ultimately it didn't do it for me by itself (largely because it caused severe insomnia, which caused emotional ups and downs). Also, I've read that Wellbutrin is a relatively weak (compared to other ADs) medication.For me, only adding an SSRI provided full relief.

Wellbutrin used to be the perfect med for me.
i was at 300 for theraputic range. but you have to start with 150 and titrate up slowly due to risk of seizures. that's probably why they say 4 weeks. my doc i think increased me after 2 weeks to 300. and that's what i stayed at for about a year. it started to poop-out and increased to 450. they don't recommend higher again because of seizures from med.
Unfortunately it no longer works for me. i was quite bummed because it worked SO well for me.
