Sorry not a newbie. Couldnt get my password reset under my posting name Brutus1, so I had to register again. I have been following this board for about 9 years and post occasionally.
I probably know the answers to my own questions, buts its always nice to have input.
Currently tapering off klonopin after 9 years of 1-1.5 mgs at bedtime. Reducing at about .25 per week, and currently @.75 mgs all at bed.
Problem is I fall asleep just fine but wake up 4 or so hrs later just about every night, with difficulty falling back to sleep. Tried Trazodone for sleep, just desiccated my mouth and didnt help much, neither did Elavil or Remeron. Seems sedation does equate to sleep with me. Are there any alternatives to klonopin, besides other benzo's and sedating ADs?
I also take Wellbutrin XL 150, buspar 10 mgs bid and fluoxetine 20 mgs. Does anyone know how many hrs there should be between Buspar doses? I take mine at 9AM and 5PM I also feel mentally dull, just not sharp cognitively.
THX

Brutus I remember you really wanted to say hi but I also wake after four hours for years irreguardless of what meds I take. Sounds like your combo works and only the sleep problem. Why are you cutting down on klonopin if it worked? Love Phillipa

Have you tried a hypnotic, although you can build up a tolerance after time. A small dose of seroquel works the best for me.

We'll Jan,
It seems because I also took it all @ bed time, I really wondered after all this time if the Klonopin had much of an effect anymore. Sleep was so/so with the K. I guess I just wanted to see if there was a better way. Know halfway thru the process, I wonder if I'm doing the right thing.

I have not tried either. How small of a dose of seroquel do you take? You hear so many things about the off label use of newer AP's and wonder what to believe.

I take 25 mg before bed. First it makes me hungry but I'm usually asleep within 15 minutes after getting into bed. I still take .05 clonazapam at bed too.

traz is a "hypnotic." Take seroquel if you want to sleep 14 hours. Actually, don't. Don't introduce any other drugs to your system as you withdraw painfully off klonopin. Wellbutrin is activating, But if you've been taking it for more than a week don't stop. Withdrawing off multiple drugs is....bad. Buspar looks good on paper but just makes you ridiculously dizzy I'd reconsider unless its working great for you. Thye look like xanax bars so thats cool! You are tapering too fast as well...9 years? This isn't detox! Alternatives to klono? You cant withdraw off a benzo and take one...You do have a couple of options for aiding in w/d and though I am becoming a Pharmacist I can't think of them off the top of my head. Do you think this is a paradoxical effect of the w/d or are you an insomniac? Probably the former if Traz didn't work (at all?) Talk to your pdoc about switching to Valium as well...Look it up. Buspar is the LAST thing you should be worried about right now. 9 years of a strong chemical dependence? Just focus, and sloooooooooow down. You'll get through it. At least its not Xanax.

> THXHi Justify,
I have had insomnia on and off for a while due to Parnate. This is a simple answer but it sure worked for me. Doc told me ok to take klonopin (already take) and 6mg of Malatonin. I take it 30 minutes before bed. Hope that helps.
