Anyone who has tried the various NRIs or stims, could you compare how they affected you, especially for motivation/activeness, anxiety, although i'd like to hear any experience. thanks

You mean like cymbalta? Tood 60mg when first out great for pain nothing for depression anxiety. Second round couldn't handle anxiety now this was a few years later chemistry change? Love Phillipa

Hello D/R,

Have no experience with NRI's, nor any kind of amphetimine, unless they put Ritalin in that class (I don't think so). I took ritalin when I was younger for a number of years for what Doc said was ADD.

Although I don't suffer from anxiety, a lot of meds are too stimulating for me, ex: SSRI's. Ritalin helped me stay motivated, active (NOT one of those meds where your mind is active, but you don't feel like moving)

For me, at the time, it was motivating and I kept up with a very buzy lifestyle. My dose was always on the low end. I would not get the XR if there is one, because you can just take it when you feel you need it and then it wears off.

Just MY experience, as don't know your diag or current meds, possible contraindications, etc.

Hope that helps,

~Jade

I used to tolerate Remeron -- in fact it improved my very complicated disorder a lot, at the expense of incredible weight gain as I probably also wasn't watching my diet. You have to really cut things.

Second time around for sleep, 15mg became an antidepressant after two weeks and I couldn't sleep again. It didn't work any more. I would have probably had to quickly uptake it. Who knows.

Years ago Effexor was like 50 cups of coffee, it was intolerable eventually. That's when I first tried Ambien, which was psychadelic for one day and never again -- ah, one of my few legal (no, never done anything streetwise) highs.

Cymbalta was a mixed bag -- it took months and months to take effect, I had some sort of epiphany at 80mg and I went up to 120mg. For reasons I wont get into a whole series of things happened and I stopped it.

But these are only my experiences. Everyone is different.

I would say that Cymbalta is probably more gentle than Effexor for people who have anxiety as its 5HT to NE is 6:1 theoretically.

But some people who are calmed by very stimulating things take quite a dose of Effexor.

It all depends on your chemistry

Desipramine is what I'm on now (with various other things), and it's been my most effective antidepressant out of several tried. Second best were Emsam/selegiline and Effexor (not both at the same time). Desipramine is an old tricyclic that acts mostly on norepinephrine. Unfortunately, it hasn't helped motivation/activeness, and made anxiety worse. I think the anxiety and the desipramine side effect (for me) of super rapid heartrate and palpitations are related, because the beta blocker added by my primary care dr. helped all three. I also tried a benzo for anxiety, but the only thing I could tell getting from it was tiredness, when I already struggle with bad fatigue. I can take perphenazine PRN (in addition to nightly dose) and I find it can somewhat reduce my emotionality, which can be depression-related, perhaps with anxiety as part of the problem helped.
I was already using generic Adderall (mixed amphetamine salts) when I started the desipramine, and found out that the two don't mix well for me (crazy heart episodes). My pdoc was willing to let me have both, if I recall correctly, but I found the episodes so frightening that I told myself I could only have one, out of the desipramine or stimulant, and I picked the desip. because to me the depression was so bad.

Oh, I forgot to mention another norep. drug I tried, Cymbalta. It felt like nothing to me, no benefit to depression that I could notice, but then no side effects nor did I have discontinuation trouble.

thanks.

I am taking an MAOI now so things like cympalta which are SNRIs are ruled out for me. but i'm not really up to 100% yet either.

i think the list of availible drugs are: NRIs (like attomoxetine, desipramine, nortryptiline, reboxetine and a few other TCAs) and stimulants (the amphetamine and methylphenidate families)

Hi D/R,

I'm on Parnate 30mg. except for short break, its been month total. Kind of mixed bag results so far. Don't know if I'll take it long term or not. I hope so as had initial excellent response. Can you tell me which MAOI your on, for how long, and what your response(s)have been?

Nortriptyline makes me horribly anxious and agitated and didn't help my depression much... Reboxetine makes me feel quite nice.. really relaxed but it cased horrid sexual dysfuntion that included pain.
