Parnate plus Abilify or Tianeptine - HELP

Posted by satsumas on September 22, 2008, at 11:17:13

Hi there,
I am having a good response to parnate 40 but as BP2, I am concerned that as has happened in the past, my response to A/Ds has often been incomplete, and residual symptoms around anhedonia and apathy and social anxiety have often remained.

My dr. suggested abilify combo with Effexor, but I'm curious if anyone has used it with Parnate with a good result? Dr. says that it's contraindicated because Abilify works on serotonin, and there is a chance of SS combining it with an MAOI, but it seems as though there are reports of people using Abilify successfully with an MAOI.

In terms of efficacy, i'd love to here any subjective experiences.

In addition, has anyone ever tried tianeptine plus Parnate? I'm a big fan of tianeptine at least based on the research I've read, it's novel form of action seems very attractive, especially it's unique neurogenesis actions and low incidence of side effects. I'm considering adding a low dose of tianeptine to Parnate, almost as a "supplement". Considering it's an SSRE, i'm not guessing there would be much risk of SS with that combination.

Comments? Any subjective experience combining an MAOI with tianeptine? It seems like it woudl be a great 1-2 punch for TRD or BP depression and really do a good job of fixing the parts of my brain which have atrophied, as well as reducing the remaining symptoms of anhedonia and social anxiety.

Thoughts? Does this make sense? WOuld I be endangering myself?
If one had to choose, would you choose between augmenting with Abilify or Tianeptine? (I also heard tianeptine has some minor mood stabilization properties, not sure how true this is though).

Thanks for your help, I really need it.

Hm, i don't know about stablon. I really like the drug too, it is perfect for the midly depressed person who lost interest in life. But, there was a study showing mixing it with an ssri negated the anxiolytic effects of both drugs. It might be the same with MAOI;s serotonin effect.

I have not seen any reports of abilify causing serotonin syndrome.

Maybe try something more basic like thyroid?

If your thyroid is fine please don't mess with it. Love Phillipa

I tried adding Parnate(10mg) to tianeptine when I was on it. No good for me. I realised it was going to be bad and went to bed for the day. I suppose you could call it agitation.
