I have been on Dexedrine for 6 months, originally it was prescribed @ 5mg TID. I now take 15mg BID, and it seems to be doing absolutely nothing, the original positive effects on focus and concentration have subsided. Even the side-effect of appetite supression has stopped. I can even fall asleep now an hour after taking it if I choose. I did an experiment and took 30mgs at once, and the same; absolutely nothing. I might as well have taken a vitamin instead.
Is this simply a case of tolerance? or has my brain somehow changed? Should I just forget about Dexedrine? Switch to Adderall?
I dont want to be increasing my dose to addictive or dangerous amounts, however this medicine was very effective at one point for ADD.Please help.

That sounds like tolerance, and it's very similar to what seems to have happened to me with methylphenidate. Although, to be fair, in my case it might just be plain vanilla increased depression.
It's possible that Adderall will help, or maybe methylphenidate, or Vyvanse, which might be the best bet, since Dexedrine helped you. It's certainly worth trying one of them, to see if they'll help.
If you're taking it for ADHD, though, you might consider Strattera -- it seems to me that six months is a pretty brief time for that level of tolerance to build up. It may be that stimulants aren't your best bet.
I hope that helped some, and good luck to you.

Take a med vacation and start using a magnesium supplement.

nmda-antagonists (and holidays) are the only option known, although they aren't well-proven.

So does this mean that my liver has grown tolerant? or the my brain has?
This is the end of the thread.
