I have a question if anyone knows. I have a bottle of generic fluoxetine 10mgs that expired well over a year ago. I need to break one in half and take 5mgs and am wondering what the consequences might be with this expiration date. Probably not that big of a deal as the bottle has been kept in a cool, dark place.
I want to try this again before I see my Pdoc so I know whether or not to ask for a prescription.
Anyway, Phillipa, if you are reading, I am going to try 5 mgs. early tomorrow morning (I have to be up early this week). I know for a fact that 10 mgs. will be too much for me. But I can break these in half and see if I feel some motivation and less desire to sleep. I certainly don't want insomnia but I want to be tired before 2:30AM (!) and sleep eight hours tops. 11:00PM to 7:00AM would be so perfect. I want to get out of bed when the alarm goes off, not two or three hours later.
One piece of good news - I lost two pounds by eating Lean Cuisines, salads, and Weight Watchers snacks. I know, two lbs. is no big deal, but this is coming from someone who has done nothing but steadily gain for three years.
If the fluoxetine makes me jittery, hinders my weight loss, gives me intolerable insomnia (that long half life makes me wonder if it makes any difference when we take it) - I am off it. I will give it a fair try at 5 mgs. because of my anxiety.

Ahh you caught me!!! Yes this is my reading time and answering time as waiting for husband. I was told legally they have to have the l year expiration date on meds. Also learned that the military does at times use old meds. From What you say and an old poster in pharmacy it's okay maybe a bit less potent. And hey congrats on the lean cuisine and weight loss. That's wonderful. And please let me know what happens babblemail is always on. Love and Luck Phillipa

Phillipa - I didn't forget about you. I just cannot get up the nerve to try the small amount of fluoxetine. I've thought about it but my anxiety is too high lately. I have it for when I am ready.
In the meantime, I spoke with someone last night who used Meridia along with following the Medifast diet and lost quite a bit of weight.
Any reading I have done regarding Meridia has shown poor results for weight loss. Go figure. It's an NSRI that seems unhelpful for depression, too. I am going to start a thread on it and see what folks have to say.

Whoops - added my own name accidentally.
This is the end of the thread.
