Hi
About 7 years ago when the Paxil pooped out on me, I tried Celexa for about 6 weeks. I got a rash on the base of my neck that didn't go away until after I'd stopped the med. My PDoc seemed to think the Celexa wasn't the cause of it. Anyway, for various reasons I can't take Paxil, I'm not doing too well on Prozac, and I'm wondering if it's worth trying Celexa again. (There's not many more options in NZ). Has anyone else experienced a rash with Celexa? Would it have gone away if I'd trialled it longer?
Thanks
Jax

You can get a rash on any medication. Do you have Lexapro available there?

No. We only have the Paxil, Prozac, Celexa and Zoloft in special cases I think. (Those are the ones subsidised by the govt. otherwise they'd cost hundreds of dollars). But I'd need to check that with my PDoc.

It's a good drug for many and I had less side effects with it than any other SSRI.
Good luck with everything.

ANYTHING can cause a rash. I get hives from cilantro, and have gotten a rash from fluoxetine -- although only from one generic version. I've taken Prozac, and I've taken various generic fluoxetines, but only the one generic caused the rash. What's the difference? Binders and fillers vary from generic to generic, as well as between generic and name brand.
Is it worth trying Celexa again? It might be, if the manufacturer has changed the inert ingredients, or if you can get a generic from a different manufacturer. Or you could try Zoloft, if that's available to you.
For whatever it's worth, Zoloft was the least problematic SSRI for me. Mileage, of course, varies greatly.
Best luck.

Really you feel the rashes are from ther generics? Think it's worth paying cash for the real deal? Maybe that's one of the reasons generics don't work for me in any class drug???? Would appreciate a response as rather desparate. Thanks Phillipa

No, I was explaining that I had an allergic reaction to something in one particular generic. That's all. Nothing more. Nothing less. I, personally, had an allergic reaction to one specific generic. I've taken the name brand without problems, AND I HAVE TAKEN OTHER GENERICS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.
That has nothing to do with all generics, all people, or buying name brands.

I trust the real brand names better as they were the developers of whatever med and they had to be strict about products they used. Always have done better on the brand names. Phillipa
