Iwent to pdoc today and because my dosage of effexor at 225 is not working for my depression. I also have GAD, but the effexor has basically squashed the anxiety. I'm just very depressed, still. I decided to augment with wellbutrin, and was wondering how this combo works or has worked for others?
I was on paxil for 4 years, and I wasnt depressed, but life stressors (and anxiety) made me decide to try effexor. I wasnt depressed though, just anxious at a high dose. Did I make a mistake?

We are all different. The only ad ever took was paxil l0mg with benzos and for three months I lay in a hammock so tired but also on lopressor 25mg. But then it worked. Only other that worked was luvox. I know many that effexor and wellbutrin work great for. So With your pdocs blessings give it a try and good luck. Phillipa

All I know is that I am running out of hope that anything will work. It seems that the effexor will work for 2 weeks and then I slide back down. I'm up to 225. I have taken wellbutrin before and it didnt work but it was with something else...
I'm just anxious about taking anything new because of the lack of hope already...

You could go back to paxil and ask for an occasional benzo if anxiety gets out of control.
That would seem to be the simplest answer.

I have just been so hopeful about a lot of things but fighting this has really used up my hope bank.

Ok its time to get off this effexor band wagon..... I just can't do it anymore. The wellbutrin makes it so I can't sleep so It's out of the question. Time to go back to paxil. How horrible is this going to be?

I've been on effexor for 5 years, just added Wellbutrin 1-1/2 months ago - don't give up too quick, and be VERY CAREFUL with caffeine!! I have to take my Wellbutrin before 2pm - I take 200mg in the morning, and try to remember to take it again at 12 but that's been hard... I was exhausted all the time with Effexor, even though I was out of the black hole - Wellbutrin has taken the fatigue away, and I'm actually - gasp - Happy the past few days! I function better at work, can think better, and feel better around people, too. I used to take 2-3 naps at lunch every week, but don't have to anymore.
Hang in there, cut down on your caffeine, and don't take the Wellbutrin too late in the day - give it a chance!
