Replacing Effexor with Stablon (tianeptine)

Posted by satsumas on June 11, 2008, at 13:42:45

Hi,

I am looking to try to replace the Effexor I am currently on with Stablon. I hate the Effexor side effects, and don't like the way it makes me feel apathetic and exacerbates cravings.

Does anyone have any experience with a successful switch from Effexor to Stablon? Since they operate via opposite actions on serotonin reuptake, how should I switch? Is it OK to go up on stablon while going down on Effexor, or do I need to taper of effexor completely before going up on Stablon?

Thanks,
Satsuma

All I know is that stablon and a conventional antidepressant have been combined before. They do not necessarily cancel each other out, since their effects are much more involved than simply what they do to serotonin.

You are kind of in uncharted waters with this one. Personally I do not see why you could not do a cross taper. If it were me I would just be cautious and respectful of doses until I had a better feel for it. And realize that the whole time it is realistic to expect weird stuff from effexor withdrawals and start-up side effects.

That could be horrible why not call your pdoc and see how he wants you to handle the switch? Love Phillipa

I don't know for you, but for me it would be a very difficult switch. What is your diagnostic ?

My doctor's journal group is discussing Stablon, so if you'd like me to get a name from him for someone who's part of that group, let me know.

I strongly recommend trying this medication with the help of a doctor. Or, at least with your doctor's knowledge.

My doctor is researching it because we're going to try it for me -- so, I wish us both luck with it. If you get a chance, BabbleMail me about where you're getting it?

Good luck.

Read my post about my experience

The withdrawals are slowly passing, but getting off effexor is brutal...expect to hit some rough waters before you hit calm sea
