hi, i;'ve been taking luvox @ 25mg in the mornings for the 6 days. i was instructed to raise the dose to 50mg after a week and was just wondering the best was to go about it. i have experienced slight sedation - though nothing dramatic - so far. for those taking it, did you have better luck taking a split-dose of 25mg in the a.m. or p.m., or is dividing the dose generally encouraged for higher intakes?
thanks

Hi I've been on luvox for years. Was always told starting dose was 50mg but that was a long time ago. I take my luvox at night the 50mg. Anything over l00mg then the next jump in dose should be in the am. And luvox potentiates effects of benzos which is good for me as been on them many years. Sounds like a lot of docs are starting at lower doses now and that it great. Only ad I have no side effect with. Good luck to you. Sedating also. Phillipa

thanks, i'll try 50mg at night. is the sedation problematic during the day for you? also has it eased at all since you first started?

g g g unit been on benzos for so many years that other ad's escalate my anxiety so the sedation is not really sedating to me on luvox and take 20mg of valium with it. Luvox makes it stronger. And still only sleep four hours. Short half life of luvox. Phillipa you should be fine. And please let me know what you think of luvox.

went swimming today and experienced unbelievable pain in my ankle and knee. there had been a kind of liminal pain hovering in my knee over these past few days but i just chalked it up to a general lack of fitness. google searches reveal that joint inflammation is a definite side effect of luvox. is it possible at such a low dose? i always feel like such a letdown returning to my pdoc with a litany of complaints. these days i usually stick it out at least 8 weeks to override the hypochondriac instinct but this pain sucks and is interfering with my fitness regime

well i stopped the luvox. just didn't seem worth deliberating over whether pain was worse before/after starting, i'd rather just go with my gut in this case. strange thing though was that i went to see doc - not one who prescribed it, just my gp since can't afford to see pdoc at the moment. i asked him if i could try zoloft and he asked me what i really want out of these drugs. i said to not feel like killing myself, not have to suffer through intrusive thoughts 24/7 and to feel some modicum of the calm that i imagine others are allowed to feel on a pretty regular basis. he said that he thinks i'm becoming too reliant on ssri's which is strange since i've made efforts to renovate my diet, exercise, and am re-entering CBT after a break due to financial difficulty - all of which i took as signs that i wasn't relying on drugs alone. i also don't just try something for a few days and then give up. i gave lexapro/prozac/remeron sufficient (6-8) week trials this year. anyway he let me walk away with a prescription of clonazepam which he wants me takiing daily, something that seem totally counter-intuitive since i complained of brain fog/memory problems etc and need as much cognitive function as possible for my job. this just feels so weird - being denied ssri's but then being handed heavy-duty benzos without asking. basically i felt like some drug addict who'd crawled into his office begging for methadone. my head's still awhirl from the logic at play: it's not like i'm out constantly chasing the next high, all i want is some peace + stability. so ive made an appt with a new doc for friday who will hopefully allow me to try zoloft.

I don't think SSRI's are all that effective. Some doctors notice this in their practice. Perhaps he was just relaying to you is lack of faith in them.
