I would like to get off the benzos after 5 years. I am bipolar II and can't take SSRIs, they induce depression/mixed moods etc.

probably...buspar is more like an atypical antipsychotic than an antidepressant. That said, BuSpar often doesn't work well, especially if you have prior BZD exposure.

Always thought it was like a benzo and if you had taken benzos it wouldn't work. Phillipa

BuSpar was the very first medication I ever had, back when I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder. It didn't work at all. In fact, it made things worse. Down the road, I was diagnosed as having BP2 and panic disorder, so while BuSpar might be safe (I guess), I'd have a hard time believing it would work very well. What benzo have you been taking? Why are you trying to get off them?
