Hi all,
I've never been to a psychdoc before but was on an anti-depressant once, about 7 years ago-- my GP prescribed it-- Celexa. (just took it for 5 months-- I have an aversion to medication)
I'm quite nervous to go. I was told it would be a 90 minute meeting for the first visit!! 90 minutes!! The GP that prescribed the anti-depressant took no more than 10 minutes-- I jsut don't see what will take so long!
And also-- was wondering if anyone has advice as to what they have found works well for them. I have been dx with various things: major depressive disorder;recurrant- moderate... anxiety disorder... OCD.... and when stressed I can tend to get paranoid(so I'm told-- though to me such thoughts seem very valid). I have never stayed at a job long due to anxiety/stress/ and thoughts that people don't like me and are against me.
*phew*.. this is hard.... don't talk about myself usually.

You might find it helpful to make a list of your most problematic "symptoms"--lack of energy/excess energy, obsessive thoughts/behaviors, anxiety, whatever. Most Pdocs are all about the meds, so the easier you make it for them to target specific probs with pills, the better your visit will (probably) be.
Aside from that,I wish you the best of luck with your visit and all...keep up posted, please.

Hi fleeting flutterfly. Many drug choices. Hard to say what the pdoc will prescibe did the celexa help first time you took it? That could be a clue as to what will help now. Wonderful that the appointment is 90 minutes as he will be able to get a great assessment of you and your symptoms. Try and not be nervous as I'm hopeful things will go very well. Thanks for the response! Well, I'd rather not go on Celexa again-- I thought it caused me to gain weight and I don't want that. I've been told that it helped "correct" my weight, as some thought I had gotten too thin.(was 119 lbs, then went down to 107 lbs-- after the five months on Celexa I was at 125 lbs).. *shrugs*.... I'm back at 119 lbs, I worry about any weight gain.(for one thing, husband has voiced how he would be pushed away if I was out of shape)
I'm trying hard to not be nervous about this appointment..... my mind is having trouble receiving the calming that I try to suggest.

Okay luvox or fluvoxamine is an ad for OCD that is how it was marketed here. New cr version is out of luvox and I didn't gain weight on it. Maybe see if any samples? Love Phillipa

119 to 125? Just a little more weight to love in my opinion. Choose carefully and tell your pdoc what is the most important to you. Getting healthy is the most important thing. good luck.

Thank you Phillipa. We'll see what the psychdoc says- I will keep this in mind. will try to post about it all on Friday as I go tomorrow. yikes!

Oh wow, you are so sweet to think of this. I did go, though I had the time wrong-- good thing the office called me before my appointment or else I would have missed it. It was yesterday, I said in a previous post that I'd write about it on "Friday" coz I was away from home all day yesterday - I didn't have computer access.
I was nervous, but thank goodness the psychdoc was nice, we went through a list of questions and I had to talk a bit about my background and what is going on presently.
The psychdoc thought I had anxiety problems and also-- like a psycholgist I'd seen in the past--I was again diagnosed with major depression- moderate.
Towards the end I got very quiet, as I felt upset for having said so much to this person. I don't feel very good about it all-- but -- I will go and get the prescript filled-- it's for Lexapro(what ever that is!?). I'm so fearful I will lose "me".... that the meds will change me into someone else..... so nervous.........
