I was looking through my bag of old meds the other day and found a pack of generic 20mg citalopram tabs. I was hoping to find some Zoloft, but that was in another bag that a certain somebody threw out while I was in hospital. I thought it might help me bridge the gap between now and when I see my pdoc next (whch could be as long as six weeks). Tianeptine would be great, but even if I ordered some it would take a few weeks to get here. The main drawbacks are:
* It's a few years out of date (not too bothered as I've heard it doesn't make that much difference).
* Can increase the risk of bleeding when taken with amisulpride.
* Sexual problems and insomnia (although I have some Periactin, so that might help).
* May cause apathy when I really need something motivating/energising.
I may try a small 10mg tester dose tomorrow just to see what effect it has. I'm not sure about this, but it's worth a try. I need something to help me get through the days.

>I actually think that ssris are a useful tool however I don't think they're a good montherapy because they eventually lower dopamine which causes problems. However I think they're a useful tool when combined with a dopamingeric agent such as a stimulant. I don't believe that Wellbutrin is a good augment because it really doesn't do much with dopamine. So you have stimulants or agonists to run with them that I can think of. Some have done well adding trivastal.

Q you need to be very careful as didn't you just find out you were bipolar and suffer a manic episode? If wrong please correct me. Celexa was very tiring for me. Love Phillipa

Wouldn't adding something like Abilify possibly help since it's a partial agonist?

It's funny because I'd been saying for years I had bipolar, but one of the reasons my pdoc refuted this was because I'd taken so many antidepressants over the years and never had a manic episode. The manic episode actually happened at a time when I was taking no meds at all. I don't think Celexa would be especially likely to cause mania, it's TCAs and other drugs that boost noradrenaline that carry the biggest risk. I've read of SSRIs actually being used as mood stabilizers in bipolar, but they're certainly not approved for this.

I'm taking amisulpride as required, so I suppose that would help with the dopamine side of things. The patient information leaflet says it can increase the risk of bleeding if taken with Celexa though. I've wanted to try Trivastal for quite a while, but I did manage to get some Mirapex last year. Unfortunately I threw it out, but it did help a great deal with opiate withdrawals.

I took a 10mg dose yesterday. Not a great deal of effect, just felt slightly detached and a little nauseated. Didn't sleep all night. Today I found my foot is turning the peculiar pinky-purple it did when I used to get cellulitis. On each occasion I got cellulitis I was taking a serotonin reuptake inhibitor of some kind, and I've wondered if there might be a link with SSRIs and subcutaneuous bleeding (which then develops into cellulitis) in the past. Apparently the risk is increased if citalopram is taken with amisulpride. So this is one trial I won't be repeating. Gives me misgivings about trying Cymbalta too.
