Cymbalta+Effexor Not recommended but working

Posted by 11wildcard on April 23, 2008, at 13:40:03

Hey everyone~I've been on 60mg of Cymbalta for awhile after 300 Effexor stopped working (later found it was do to several triptans), and it helped keep me functionable but I still wasn't experiencing any good feelings emotionally. Stayed kinda blah. Added Deplin, not a difference. I decided to add 150 Effexor w/ the 60 Cymbalta and 4mg of Klonopin daily and now have more energy and feel better. Called a pharmacist and he said although serotonin syndrome was possible, if I hadn't had it by now (2 weeks), I should be okay but see my doc.. I go 5/13...Just wanted any input. Thx

Why is Effexor and Cymbalta not recommended? I currently take 300 mg Effexor XR and 60 mg Cymbalta. I have been on Effexor XR for several years and I use to take 20 mg Prozac with it for energy. When the Prozac started to poop out my doctor wrote me a script of Cymbalta. I have been taking the 2 meds now for 2 months and I think Cymbalta is better than Prozac for me. I would really appreciate any comments.

That's interesting to know b/c the phar. as well as some material I looked up didn't recommend the two together due to the possibility of serotonin syndrome?? I wonder after all the diff. meds I've been on if it's all 3 of the main chemicals I need more of b/c while say Prozac/Zoloft/Paxil/Lexapro types didn't help me, Effexor/Cymbalta types keep me 'okay' yet I can feel no happy feelings...

Thank you for your post. I have been on various combinations of antidepressents & anxiety meds over the past 20 years and it's really hard to find the right combination. So far the Effexor/Cymbalta is working better for me than the Effexor/Prozac. I feel more alert and my mood has improved. My doctor (past & present) has never talked to me about serotonin syndrome although I have read about it from other post. I need to do alittle research on this subject.
