Yes you can split it, but it will lose the extended release properties. That's ok, just take small custom size doses when needed, guessing maybe every 3 to 6 hours or somewhere inbetween. It will be more like regular xanax and not extended release.

From myself and others that have taken time release many have to also take regular xanax as doesn't release properly. Happened to Daughter-in-law and I hated it so taking pieces along with my valium it was paid out of pocket expensive. Love Phillipa

thanks. meds sure can be an expensive experiment. i never have really understood why drug manufacturers think that those of us who need chemical balancing can afford this stuff. thankfully the xanax xr is generic now.

Splitting extended release formulas defeats the purpose and may even be a little harmful in this case because you have no idea how much Xanax you will be getting depending how they have formulated. So you'll get a crumb on one split and the whole amount on another.I can understand wanting to save money but its not going to be any value that you can calculate as far as how much you're getting, not to mention how fast it will uptake.

and replacing with generic Alprazolam is very inexspensive
i fully agree with yxibow
don't mess with the time release
you are worth the $
