I started taking Lithobid once a day for a week and then went to twice a day last Sun. After taking 300 mgs I had a few headaches, but as soon as I went up to 300 twice a day I had a migraine every day. Probably the worst I've had in my entire life. Last night I thought I was dying. The pain was excruciating, unlike anything I had ever experienced. Now I know they use Lithium to treat headaches, but can people get migraines from it also? Maybe it's the Marplan/Lithium combo that's causing it. I don't know. My doctor isn't in today, but I'll speak with him tomorrow. I also did a search for this but didn't find much info. Have any of you who take Lithium experienced migraines?
Now I'm too scared to take it anymore.
Thanks,
Brooke

Hi Brooke - I've been on lithium two different times, but I haven't experienced what you're going thru. But getting the right dosage can be tricky - my pdoc said that there's a very fine line between enough to be therapeutic and too much which is toxic. Are you getting blood tests to check the level? I hope your doc has some constructive course of action for you to follow... I wish you success in finding the right combination of meds.

I'm getting my blood work at the end of the month, so that would be after about a month on 600 mgs (well, I doubt I'll go back to that dose). He also wants to check my thyroid because I already suffer from hypothyroidism. I don't know if I had some kind of toxic reaction, but something was definitely wrong. I'll speak with my doctor tomorrow. Maybe he'll tell me to go back to 300 mgs and stay there.
Thanks for your reply.
