paxil/lex anxiety/depression

Posted by winterbluez on April 2, 2008, at 11:56:39

i have been on paxil(5mg.) i know low dose~ but i started on 20 and felt better and went to 10 then a year or so later went to 5 and stayed there for years. I have gad/soc. anx./ s.a.d/ and when a shocking life event arises i tend to fall into a deep depression. i just had one of those mid march and couldn't sleep for 2 nights straight!
went to gp and he said stop the paxil and switched me to lexapro 10 mg., i went a week on that and couldn't sleep was irritated edgy and
have felt like my feelings/emotion are wrapped up in a coccoon inside me. i'm a very emotional feeling kinda person so this really bothers me.
plus the sexual SE of total numbness in my groin
{no ejaculation remotely possible} is totally unacceptable and doubles the feelimg of depression alone! i was on .5 mg. of xanax 2x a day for years also. i since dropped my lexapro down to 5 mg/day and asked to be switched to klonopin. i an sleeping fine now but still feel all revved up on lexapro, and still don't feel my normal feelings/emotions. my eyes have been twitching and i feel very unmotivated,,

what should i do? get off the lex and go back on a higher dose of paxil? paxil never revved me up
at all and made me feel edgy and tense like lexapro,, i must say though i have no anxiety on lexapro? i'm so damn confused!! could the lack of motivation/lack of focus issue be that i stopped paxil cold turkey and went right on lex?
if i go back on paxil should i wean lex after only 2 weeks or just jump right back in with paxil?
is klonopin a better med for me than xanax for all day anxiety?
i feel so strange right now like my life is just a dream and i have a 2 year old and 4 year old boy and girl who need me there for them and i'm a mess right now, i'm so damn scared /frustrated!!

please anyone with advice, insight, suggestions, please respond, i'm in a bad place right now mentally,,
thanx so much for any help

I know for me l0 of paxil and .5 of xanax three times a day the xanax that is worked great for me til my pdoc tried to switch now it doesn't work any more. If it works I work with the med the paxil that is. What does your pdoc think? Phillipa

the dr. seems to be pushing lexapro but paxil never revved me up like lex does and of course there is a generic paxil so i wonder sometimes about docs wanting to put you on the more$ med.

also how do you compare klonopin with xanax?
i feel calmer on klonopin but maybe slightly more withdrawn?

Klonopin is much longer acting. Xanax lasts a lot of people about four hours. Funny saw a drug rep today and talked to him he said so many generics and so many different ingrediants in them than the orignal. Surprised to hear him say it. Phillipa

For motivation, something less serotonergic, like bupropion (Wellbutrin) is likely to be more helpful. If the insomnia persists, try a sedative/hypnotic agent at bed time - zolpidem, zopiclone, cyproheptadine and diphenhydramine are some options.
