Nardil failure - why I am stopping

Posted by squatlover on March 31, 2008, at 7:09:05

Today i got the final straw side effect.

I had the effect where I would momentarily lose half a second of time about twenty times during the day. It would be like blacking out momentarily, which makes it impossible to drive, and if it continued to work or do my job. All the side effects have built up this week - I'm disappointed that I have wasted 3 months of my life for this drug. I am going to cycle off it now quite quickly - 3 days on each downgrade - 60mg for the next 3 days, 45 to day 6, 30 to day 9, 15 to day 12, and one tablet alternately til day 15.

Comments please

I think after three months you have given the drug a fair trial and have put up with some pretty tough side effects. You might want to try Parnate as the side profile is a bit different. Still the same maoi diet. less sexual sides and some say stronger action on dopamine and less on serotonin.

I am on Marplan and didn't have any side effects like I did on Nardil. Maybe you could consider that.

Is your BP very low? Perhaps your BP is causing you to black out. If it is less than 100/60 this might be the cause and a reduction in the dosage might be the first thing to try before quitting it all together.

Did you try to space out the dose? Maybe that would help.

Hi,
Are blackouts a known side effect of Nardil? I've been taking it for eleven years and have never had a blackout. Everyone is different, but are you taking any other medication with the Nardil. It is the only medication out of 45+ combinations that has worked for my atypical depression and social anxiety.
Good Luck,
Jedi

Thanks for the replies.

I don't feel there is any point in stepping down the dose because I wasn't getting any effect apart from a mild AD effect at 60mg for 7weeks - given that I have tried 75mg for over weeks, its 10 weeks at a theraepeutic dose.
My BP was 108/66 so reasonably high - I want to try medication free for a while - my SA is an advantage in examination time.
Spacing out the doses made me too drowsy - I could never get over this side effect, no matter the time I spent on it.

Perhaps the tablets I am taking - orange Concord UK ones are different from the ones you are using and the dose should vary. Thoughts? 2nd day of 60mg today.

Jedi Nardil worked really well for about 4 months but then pooped out. I've dropped the dose to 30mg a day as a maintenance dose but it's no good. I haven't even lost the weight I gained
