I have read that restoril can create some very intense euphoric effects when taken at 30mg or higher. My pdoc pescribed it to me for sleep. I am currently on 30mg and decided to take another 30mg because I could feel nothing from the first dose which was about 3 hours ago.Is it all going to hit me at once or does the med just not work. I am starting to feel a little drunk. Anywho. Has anyone had experience with this medication?
Regards : )

>Actually, 60mg is the MAXIMUM temzepam dose that is considered safe, so you didn't do anything too dangerous. I always just worry about tolerance and the need for increasing doses with benzos. It's best to talk to your pdoc if the 30mg Temazepam is insufficient.

my experience with restoril has varied, but in general, i've found that it takes awhile for it to kick in. still, i would say that you should be asleep or sleepy within an hour, and if you're not at hour 3, this probably isn't the drug for you. i've taken 60mg too, along with lots of other sleeping meds, often with dr's permission. but overall, i wouldn't recommend it. my tolerance for benzos and sleeping pills remains really high, and it takes a whole lot to get me to sleep. good luck, cb

> twinchHi,
Do you want something for sleep and anxiety, or to feel "soooo great"? If it's the latter, I don't think I can offer any help, other than to say that you need some help regarding substance abuse.
I told you testerday that taking 60 was a very high dosage and dangerous to do without your doctors approval. So 90mg plus alcohol is extremely dangerous. You are going down a very bad path, and I hope you can turn things around, because it's not much fun being addicted to benzo's. And the withdrawal later may make you wish you never started taking larger doses. I would really urge you to only take the 30mg you were prescribed, and to talk to your pdoc if that doesn't seem like enough to help you sleep. And combining temazepam with alcohol is a recipe for disaster. Please stop.

I apologize for my abrupt comments. I am taking 60mg of the temazepam. I went to a nurse practitioner yesterday and she prescribed me a low dose (10mg) of Elavil saying that it should help me sleep. I told her that I did not like the temazepam and I wanted to get off of it before it was too late. My pdoc is also looking into see if I have ADD/ADHD but im so hyperactive and the benzo tolerance that I have isn't helping with the enourmous amounts of energy that I have. anywho
Thank You ; )

Restoril is ultimately just the somewhat more hypnotic metabolite of Valium. But if you're benzodiazepine naive, one should definately not exceed the recommended dose (not that I am recommending exceeding doses at all.)

Restoril is a gaba-ergic drug which means it enhances the Gaba neurotransmitters which make you feel good... I would be careful with it because it is a strong drug and can become very addicting...

habituating... well I think we've discussed benzodiazepine differences of addiction and habituation.
I don't know, its more than semantics to me -- for myself, addiction is the purposeless or nonmedical use of substances as a result of recreational or other reasons... its a sticky wicket because the other reasons can include an urge to control an actual psychiatric disorder.
But prescribed and not forged benzodiazepine prescriptions in my mind lead to habituation, not addiction.
That's just coming from an individual who is going through rough roads with some habituation, yet there is reason to keep some of it in place even when I don't feel the effects of the drug, they have secondary evidence based reasons.
Of course there are even more complicated situations where addiction and habituation can occur simultaneously when someone obtains more on the side or uses an agent AMA, or several other reasons I haven't thought of.To ponder.
