Hi all,
have anybody heard of mobemide? I think it's unavalable in US. I'd like to get some information about it (particularly if it really helps against social phobia).
Thanx

I used it - seems to favor the seritonin side. Fast onset - I liked it a lower dose.
It is a crime that it isn't available in the USA. There should be some Austrailians that might comment.

Thnx a lot, cubbybear. It sounds like it's the same med. I found very little in the Net about Mobemide (as my doc named it) and nothing in Psycho-Babble, and it seemed odd to me. So I think it's just another name for Moclobemide. Now I have plenty of info.

Hello, I am on mobemide right now i am taking 375mg a day and it hasnt completely resolved the problem but it is much much better. I was suffering from anxiety and panic attacks for a while. It started as something called toilet phobia and turned into anxiety after a few months. I can now go to work every day and other things but it is still hard for me to take buses. I am actually going to a dr toady about tacha cardio (i think thats how you spell it) because of something that happened the other night and they said it may be a side affect of the medication but it may not have anything to do with it at all. I personally like the medication I just wish it was a little stronger. I tried taking 3 a day but I didnt react very well to it so i'm at 2 and a half now and its working fine.

>Some of the early trials on moclobemide for social anxiety/phobia looked promissing but now seem unfounded. I took it for APD (Avoidant Personality Disorder - a severe form of social phobia) and it seemed promissing at first - was somewhat stimulating - but then came the 'sedation attacks'. An hour after dosing (150mg twice daily) I would fall asleep. Higher doses up to 600mg can be used but are prone to cause headaches. Not one of my favourite med trials.
But try it by all means. Its a good antidepressant & general anxiolytic but just doesn't seem to cut it SPECIFICALLY for social phobia. Tried Nardil (phenelzine)? That is THE Gold Standard social anxiety/phobia med (an MAOI) and is readily available in the US. And more & more doctors are becoming willing to prescribe it. Its an old drug (around since 1950s) but has an unbeatable track record for social anxiety/phobia. Some food & med restrictions need to be followed carefully, but are no problem for most. Side effects creep up on you & can also be troublesome for the first few months, but they literally dissappear if you're patient enough. IMO side effects from Nardil are much less troublesome than the SSRIs, especially for social anxiety/phobia sufferers who normally become zombies on SSRIs.
By all means try moclobemide first if you can get it & I hope you respond well to it.

>zombies on SSRIs.I would second that. Nardil is under-prescribed due to to a possible food interaction, but I found it to be the best antidepressant compared to the dozen or so I tried. I have a hunch that it is actually curative - not just relieving the symptoms. The food restrictions are easy to manage - and you will probably have to fiddle with the dosage to get it just right.
MOBEMIDE, on the other hand was like a sledge hammer - fixed depression, but left me in a complete fog. YMMV
