if you cut seroquel in half will it loose effect?

i have read Seroquel XR if you cut it in 2 parts the XR dissapears,

is it possible that the pill didnt work this time because a 200 mg tablet was split in 2 parts, i mean the IR not the XR.

i used 25 mg tablets in the past upto 100 mg and i got cured

No, cutting 50s shouldn't matter, 25s are a bit of a crumb so its hard to say how much you're getting. Certainly splitting a 200 should give you somewhere around 100 on each side. Every medication is different of course, they generally try to put the main amount in the middle, but sometimes it isn't. If you aren't sure, ask your pharmacist.

If you leave cut pills around for a while they may lose their efficacy, that also depends on coating and volatility of the agent.

You should be just fine with splitting it (nm) » Jeroen

Well you were just talking about IR.

XR is formulated to have a very short half life spread throughout a tablet or whatever blob they've put it in, you cut it, its like cutting 12 hour cough suppressants, you get a big rush at once and boom, nothing.

yes the IR can be split, but maybe this is the cause, i used to take 25 mg tablets in 2004 upto 100 mg and i felt good for the first time in years....

there are just so many factors here..

Dependent on time. After the drug has been split in two, the 2nd part begins to oxidize (degrade).

Now, if you took that 2nd part 5 mins after the first part, you won't see much difference at all! However you take it 12+ hours later you will. As the time inceases the oxidation increases....a direct relationship.

Someone may have stated this in another thread, I'm not sure.
Generally better NOT to cut in half.

Not quite sure I understand what you mean here, but it's possible, very much so, the drug lost effect, wfater taking split portions.

Good to here. Seroquel have very practicle dose sizes...I wouldn't think you need to split it neceassarilly....

Ace!

I remember hearing about how seroquel had a lower risk of TD because of loose dissociation from the d2 receptors. But, if the drug is repeatedly dosed without a period for receptors to be unoccupied doesn't this defeat the purpose?
