Alcohol and Remeron/Zispin (Mirtazapine)

Posted by jms600 on December 12, 2007, at 16:57:59

Hi

My doctor has just prescribed me Mirtazapine - 15mg per day - for my depression.

I have immediately noticed how sedating it is!

What I was wondering is, is it safe to drink alcohol with Mirtazapine? It says in the instructions to avoid alcohol, but there again it says that with all the anti-depressants I have been on and I have still drunk beer/spirits without any problems.

Has anyone else drunk alcoholic drinks while taking Mirtazapine?

With Christmas coming up it's the party season so I want to try and enjoy it as much as possible! Also - as many sufferers would agree on here - I want to try and live my life as normal as possible so my depression is beating me!

Could anyone advise?

Thanks!

l5 of remeron didn't make me tired and alchohol always gave me a lift. Did you ask your doc about it? Maybe give him a call. Phillipa

I have taken Mirtazapine / Remeron on a number of occasions both alone and combined with other meds.

I agree with you that it is very sedating in the beginning. It will wear off over time and when you find the right dose. I have never tried to take below 30 mgs, but I have been told that low doses are more sedating.

No doc has ever told me to avoid alcohol while taking Remeron. It is my experience that a moderate alcohol consumption is no problem with Remeron.

I hope this can help you.

Hello jms 600,

I asked my doc about Remeron and alcohol when he prescribed this medicine for me a year ago.
– Social drinking on a moderate level is no problem, the man said.

But he strongly advised against hard drinking.
So just take it easy with the booze and you should be okay.

Best of Luck,
X-ray
