Effexor XR/Norepinephrine

Posted by JFerrantel on December 10, 2007, at 1:25:58

Hi, my sister mentioned that her pdoc said that Effexor only affects serotonin until administered at the 150mg dosage. Has anyone else heard this? I cannot find any information to this effect on the Effexor XR website. Thanks!

It only effects norepinephrine around that dosage - but I think that's what you meant to ask. It's still overwhelmingly serotonergic though. As dosage increases, norepinephrine activity increases but it's always a small percentage relative to serotonin.

You will have noradrenergic effect at any dose, but it may or may not be pronounced.

I have hypertension on 75mg, so it is affecting norepinephrine somewhat.
