What are some 5ht2a antagonists?

Posted by Jimmyboy on November 8, 2007, at 21:42:06

Does anyone know any drugs/herbs/supplements which antagonize the 5ht2a receptor?

I know Nefazodone does, but just wondering what else does

Remeron at serotonergic dosages (about 30mg and above), with due caution to weight gain.

Remeron, trazodone and all the atypical anti-psychotics antagonize the serotonin 2a receptor. Most other antidepressants by contrast, stimulate the serotonin 2a receptor which is believed to be one of the reasons why SSRIs can cause akathisia, anxiety, insomnia, agitation and other side effects in some individuals.

There are no herbs or supplements that antagonize the serotonin 2a receptor that I know of. If you want a neuromuscular relaxant for insomnia or generalized anxiety or tension, try calcium/magnesium supplements taken before bedtime.

Uhm, I thought 5-HT2A was the good guys. IIRC 5-HT2C inhibits dopamine.

I was looking for something to help with GAd and social anxiety, I have heard that 5ht2a antagonist helps with that, so I was seeing what options are out there. Thanks
