The only a/d that's ever worked for me - I've tried them all singly or in various combinations is imipramine. Take IMI at bedtime - biggest drawback is morning grogginess than can take hours to subside. Thinking of adding desipramine in the a.m. to get things moving. In theory (and given my experience with these meds separately) this combo might work. Any thoughts out there in psychobabble-land. Would appreciate any feedback before talking to pdoc.

Did you know a large portion of imipramine already
metabolises into desipramine.(Although desipramine
does boot NRI almost selectivly and imipramine
boost serotonin and NRI)
Please excuse typos one of them

> ShawnTypos or not, I appreciate your response. Yes, I am aware that IMI and desipramine essentially have the same relationship as celexa/lexapro. However, each seems to be part of the puzzle; whatever happens to IMI in the process of becoming DES seems to have therapeutic value. The concept is to get relief without (a) getting overly fatigued (IMI monotherapy)or (b) becoming a maniac (desipramine monotherapy). Hope this combo can work because nothing else seems to.

Be careful if you're bipolar and taking this combo. I went completely manic back in December and these two were part of my med cocktail at the time. I was also taking Neurontin, Concerta, and I believe Seroquel at night for sleep.
Ended up in the hospital and took a few months to get back on my feet. Not saying this combo won't work for you but definitely be careful if you've ever had a psychotic/manic episode....

IMO your idea actually makes sense. I cant see adding a small amount of extra desipramine (in addition to whats already metabolized from imipramine) to be a problem. On the contrary, it may well rid you of the morning grogginess.
