The government funded and sponsored study known as STAR*D proved the odds are against you with the presently existing psychopharmacology:
"Although STAR( *)D was unable to provide specific treatment comparisons for patients at all study levels, it succeeded in defining the prevalence of treatment-resistant depression and is a model for further practical clinical outcomes studies."

What is your objective in posting these? Just to provide information or are you of the opinion that people shouldn't try antidepressants, even though there is the chance they will work? Trying to clarify, since I had the impression from your post that ECT is the only effective treatment, when I know myself that antidepressants have worked for me - maybe not FULL remission, but enough so I could get a normal life back. And I've heard some horror stories about ECT. Just trying to figure out what your objective is?

ADs worked for me too. i hven't relapsed in 7 years (except for one time when I came of the drug - it worked when I went back on it.
I don't know. I think it's worth a try.
