I was wondering if anyone has been on Vyvanse for more than 30 days and could update on effects. I found some threads for about a week on med but was wondering about longer effects. We are starting my grandson on this & I am torn between benefits seen & loss of "spirit" or "spark". Would appreciate any feedback from other members. Thanks a million!

what do you mean, has he lost his emotion? stimulants can do that - cause some apathy.
I mean Vyvanse is a long acting amphetamine, but is it blunting his personality?
Let me be more specific, is it changing the way he used to act...... like "zoned"

I do coorespond off the board with two adults on it and they love it more energy and focus haven't complained of any blunting. This is second hand but they don't post. Phillipa

The first few days we have seen a certain lack of excitement that he normally has...He's been functioning okay I guess, just different . . . the little bubbly personality & sparkling eyes don't seem to be there so far. He has complained of "heavy eyelids" too. He's only 7 so it's kind of hard to get a good description from him about how it makes him feel. He definitely has lack of appetite & I have noticed every time he starts to run he complains of a headache but shortly thereafter says it doesn't hurt anymore. The dr of course says give it time to adjust. He does seem to be focusing more on drawing & writing which is a good thing. He seems very smart to us of course but he is borderline on keeping up with his classmates in school, especially reading level & teachers & dr seem to think it is a focus issue not learning disability so all we know to do is try this for a little while. It seems to be relatively new so I was hoping for info on long term effects from others. It's always scary I guess to put young ones on any medication so I do appreciate your feedback so much. I'll be away from home for a few days but will check back on posts this weekend. Thanks so much!

I would note that Vyvanse is not really a new drug. It's a high-tech reformulation of an amphetamine, that reduces its abusability significantly.
I think the suggestion about lowering the dose might be a good idea. The behavior your describing sounds to me like that of someone who -might- be above the 'theraputic window' of the drug that's best for treatment. Meaning he might do better on a lower dose, which might suppress hyperactivity less, but also be better for learning.
Giving it a little time for the body to get used to the drug might also help.
Best of luck!
