lamictal titration

Posted by twinch42085 on September 11, 2007, at 20:20:24

I am currently taking 100mg of lamictal and have been taking 100mg for the past week. My pdoc told me to increase the dosage to 200mg tomorrow. Does that titration seem too fast? I hope that I don't get the dreaded rash.

thanks : )

I don't think so, particularly if you've been on it for a while now. My pdoc had me jump from 125mg a day to 200 mg and wasn't concerned with it ... and he's the type to know when to be concerned.

If you're new to lamictal and you've just been titrating up to 1 week at 100mg, you've been at it for a month or so now, right?

Looks like you are right on schedule per the manufactors recommended titration schedule for BP.
Once at 100 mg you can go up 100 mg/week.

See Table 13 in the GlaxoSmithKline monograph:

I titrated up in 50 mg increments, but I'm sure if you've been on 100 mg for awhile, there shouldn't be any problems. I wouldn't worry about the rash, it's so rare, and it doesn't exactly come on fast. Even if you get it, you'll have plenty of time to act on it and get it taken care of.

Good luck!
