klonopin is longer acting but for some like me it gives me depression. Ativan used to work well for me but last time it didn't. So I'd try ativan first if you don't take benzos. As it's shorter acting. Phillipa

I have used them both. If you specifically are looking for halting agitation, no doubt Ativan (lorazepam) is better than the other one.

This is my experience.

Yes I have tried both, up to 5mg of ativan daily in divided doses, 2.5mg am-pm. I wouldn't say I was agitated at that point in time but I was very anxious and it didn't do much so I was switched back to valium. That was a couple of years ago. I'm now on clonazepam 2mg daily divided doses 1mg am-pm and I had been very agitated and angry and was having internal combustions on a regular basis. Clonazepam has been excellent for this.

Ativan was the first benzo I ever tried, and it worked miracles at first. I was really agitated, and it calmed me down and helped me get to sleep. Then, in the hospital, I wanted something longer-acting, so they switched me to Klonopin. Klonopin is supposed to act longer, but for me, I feel Ativan more and for about the same period of time. I think Klonopin is indicated for panic disorder whereas Ativan is not, so if your symptoms are more panicky, maybe Klonopin would be better for you.

yes i have been on them both at years at a time.

Lorazepam is calming but not mind numbing like clonzepam.

Clonazepam makes reality kinda just go blurry.

Lorazepam is better for general anxiety i belive, clonazepam is better for panic attack and mental instablity.

Mainly mental instablity is alot of things that is catoragized into just one word. Usally if you hear someone say that there "nuerotic" they have have anxiety disorders.

Usally irrational behavior, having or taking things out of preption, irrtibility, doing things that take the anxiety away. Also OCD.

But mental instablity is a word, but its usally used in older psychiatry.

No problem.
