Now this is one of the things I've heard about some of the "controversy" over this diagnosis. There's the idea almost of you being on one line, rather than separate ones for depression and mania, and this test follows you through the "spectrum" from one pole to the other. No sense of "mixed states" from that test. Some acknowledgement that instead of mania you could be experiencing anxiety, but most of the "high" state questions -- even naming it the "high" state -- focus attention on mania and not other forms of agitation.

If the test DID focus more on anxiety or agitation than typical manic behaviors, looking back at the test, I'd say I'd score 8-9 points higher.
