Stiff/painful neck with EMSAM

Posted by cumulative on August 21, 2007, at 23:33:34

Hi guys. 6mg Emsam here, on week 3. Good effects so far. Not much problem with exacerbated insomnia, fortunately, despite the problems others are having.

My neck is very stiff all the time, though, and I find myself jerking it back and forth reflexively. A few sites mention a blood pressure/stiff neck link.

Neck pain is a frequent listed side effect with this patch. It's also a symptom of tyramine problems, but obviously I really doubt it.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice let me know! It gets bothersome after a while. Maybe an electric heating pad would be good? Thanks dr-bobbers.

I experienced a near identical tendency toward transient neck and upper back pain both during my 6 years with Adderall as well as the 1.5 years on EMSAM. I never did find a solution other than fairly large doses of Advil when the situation warranted it. I should note however now that I'm taking no meds at all, the neck and back issues seem to have gone away, so I suppose there was no permanent damage there.

Interesting that it's those two meds. L-amphetamine creating body tension maybe?

I guess I'll get a heating pad. :) Thanks guy.

It was my decision (heh assuming freewill is a rational/logical concept). I'm feeling quite well for now. We'll see how it goes.

Wow that's great were you on a great number of meds for many years would you mind listing them if not it's okay. Was this your only depression and it spontaneously went away? Thanks Phillipa

This tread is really interesting as I have had chronic muscle tension for almost 2 years and have suspected it might be caused by ADs. I was initially on nortriptyline and decided to titrite off it to see if it was the culprit. Unfortunately this month-long had no impact on my pain. I am now taking parnate, and despite the fact that it's been effective for my depression + anxiety, my pain is as bad as ever. btw, It intially initially started in my jaw and has since spread to the back of my head, neck, shoulders + back. I have been very proactive about getting treatment + test and it has been treatment-resistant. Could this pain be caused by long-term use of ADs? How long was the drug out of your system for the pain to subside.

Thanks!

Sophia
