Remeron, Clonazepam, Celextra

Posted by BenzosSSRIsohMY! on August 19, 2007, at 19:04:32

43year old male, taking 4mg of Clonzepam for 14 years and just started 45mg of Remeron and Celextra.

I have never been more depressed, no sex drive, can't even pretend to be interested in anything. I read about benzo withdrawl and scared the hell out of me. But I feel stoned all the time.

I was also diagnosed with Stage 4 Non Hotchkins in 4/05 which I beat... I'm alone, cannot make friends, and feel like a wet blanket even to my cat, lol.

Should I just stop taking the drugs?!?!? I was diagnosed with post tramaic stress disorder, on ssd, before the cancer. I think the medications are making me more depressed because "have interest in 'nothing'"

Thanks!

I would try tapering off the clonazepam with the suggestions coming from your pdoc. I have read the clonazepam is second to xanax where depression being a withdrawal sypmtom. Maybe you're on too many antidepressants. I don't understand why they are using 2 antidepressants?

Best of Luck : )

I'm on the edge of loosing everything because of finances, which is stressful, so I take more meds, and on the other hand I think if it weren't for all the meds, I might be clear headed enough to pull myself up.

In other words, my depression is making me more depressed. I would love to make friends and smile, but again, I don't even want to be around me, let alone a "date"

well, I am very opened to being a friend to you. Anything to help someone makes me feel better.

I have tried clonazepam before ( 1 mg ) but it did nothing for me. Do you think that I have a high tolerance to benzos?

Tw: You may have a high tolerence to benzos, I would strongly suggest staying away from benzos... I'm facing a situation where I fear that I maybe addicted to them and because of a quality of life issues HAVE to get off Clonazepam. Maybe your doctor can prescrbe a maintence dose, but don't look for the "buzz" level. I am beginning to think I would have been better off without meds. My quality of life has actually gone downhill since I was 28. Lol, talk about lost years!

I don't take benzos anymore but I am taking 50 mg of lamictal and 4mg of Risperdal. I have heard that lamictal is prone to causing some form of mania (I have bipolar). Like you said, I should use a benzo for maintenance therapy. I have been on the risperdal for 6 months and that is not good because most atypicals are use for at most 6 weeks. I tried tapering off the risperdal but my mania returned so I had to go back on it.

Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Don't think about the lost years. Build upon the new experiences to come. There is hope. I believe that something extraordinary will happen that you can redeem yourself by.

Tw: I don't know what you should be taking, I would seek out a doctor who is an expert in psych meds. They played pin the tail on the donkey with meds with me and really messed things up. Prozac made me suicidel, they put me on a bipolar one, that MADE me bipolar... crazy!!! I'm thinking about getting off all meds except for a sleeper.

I would like to get off my meds but I know that I can't. If I was asked to suggest a sleeper I would suggest ambien. It does wonders for me, althought the side effects from it are kinda wild.

What are some things you like to do for fun?

GoodLuck! : )

I have a friend who became permanently sexually dysfunctional because of Remeron. After being on Remeron for 8 months, he hasn't recovered, and it's been 2 years already.

Even though this is only ANECDOTAL evidence, there seem to be experiments with mice becoming non-sexual after the medication, and a percentage of consumers of the drug also become non-sexual after the medication has been discontinued.

So just a warning for you.. you should be able to do more research on your own to reach your own conclusions.

Here's a recent thread on this particular subject:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20070808/msgs/775244.html

You could discuss this with your doctor, although it's unlikely they would admit that they're ignorant enough to risk your welfare by prescribing something that could potentially leave you permanently dysfunctional.

Best wishes

Hi there, I found that the sedating effects of Remeron have subsided the longer I've been on it (about 3 months now). My dosage is 30mg. I'm still kind of stupified-feeling in the morning, but I'm getting by with less sleep than when I first started the med.
It was a real pain in the behind, but my doctor asked me to do a daily mood chart to help track how I was doing. This also helped me see the slow but gradual progress that I felt since starting Remeron.

The stuff just packs such a wallop when you first start on it, though.

Good luck,
ClearSkies

This really doesn't apply "I think" if you're a female, but if you're a male, did the sexual "apathy" get better too?
