EMSAM: The summer of my discontent.
I spent about a week at 12 mg, and everything I've written before still applies, except more so. No benefits.
Insomnia, despite increase in sleeping meds. I was averaging 4 very poor hours of sleep, then spent the days so fatigued that I was useless. I returned to applying new patch in morning, and removing old patch an hour before bedtime, but no help.
So my pdoc has me back down at 9mg, where hopefully I can stabilize a sleep routine before going back up. But she sounded no more optimistic than I feel.
At 12 mg, the constipation became noticeably problematical. If sex drive was zero at 9 mg, it was sub-zero at 12 mg. Good line of refrigerators, I hear, but not fun.
At this point, I feel like I'm just going through the motions. EMSAM is shaping up to be the zillionth new thing that helped nothing but added some delightful side effects.
Thoughts of VNS are dancing through my sleep-deprived mind. What could possibly go wrong?

I am sorry for that. But,your story is not much different from me.Every AD i have taken has more or less effect but unfortunately side effect as happening to you.As per my information VNS is not insured so,if it does not work for you i think it is tantamount to spending significant fortune.Otherwise,i have not read of any serious side effects.

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with EMSAM. Your story is so different from my own. It's a shame that it can't be as effective for everyone as it was for me. I can relate to the 4 hours of sleep but it did not result in fatigue for me and it certainly didn't reduce my "drive".
