Hi
I just had gallbladder surgery which went off pretty well and was quite pain free. But since then I have relapsed into depression. It's been 10 days, I'm home and fine but really, really low.
I am already on medication for Bipolar I and I had FINALLY stabilized before this event.
Could this be post-operative depression...Does it really exist and if so does it go away by itself? Has anyone else had it..
Or could this just be a sign that the bipolar meds need to be readjusted.....again. :(Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks so much in advancePS: I didnt take any significant amount of pain killers so they cannot be the cause of the depression

I have experienced post operative depression too..although my last surgery was many years ago I remember walking down the hallways of the hospital in tears, not from pain, just feeling horribly depressed..unfortunately, I can't remember how long it lasted..and at that time I didn't associate the crying spells with post operative depression..even though one year prior to that episode I had surgery and experienced the same thing..still didn't make the connection..
I'm having surgery in September and if it happens again I'll at least know what I'm dealing with..
Maybe you should put a call in to your doctor and explain how you are feeling..
