It's supposed to be the best for GAD. In fact, I think it's the only one that is actually approved for GAD, but I'm probably wrong. At least last time I checked it was. It's supposed to be the most sedating, but I didn't notice that. It did make a %100 difference in my anxiety.

Luvox is the most sedating but it doesn't do a thing for anxiety for me. I think I'm a freak as even at theraputic doses they don't do it for me . I always needed a benzo? My sister , neice, daughter, all love zoloft but loved paxil at high dose my sister that is til she gained a lot of weight none on the zoloft but a low dose and xanax. Love Phillipa

Paxil eliminated my severe Social Anxiety Disorder after about two and one half years of use. I stopped taking it ten years ago (i take effexor now) and the SAD has never returned. This has been really miraclulous and a huge blessing.
Give it a try. Just don't expect instant results.

Out of all the ssri's and effexor I've ever used I found paxil to work for me the best for anxiety at 30mg. The 2nd time I used it I added buspar which I think helped but I can't say for sure. Unfortunately, the third time paxil wouldn't work for me and had major fatigue and anxiety problems. I've tried several others in the past trying to find something more activating but they always just agitated me. It tended to be a little sedating at times but I think that's what I need.

Be careful with paxil - it took care of my anxiety but made me angry, agressive,"egomaniac". Lost friends, respect of coworkers... when I cut back on it (or went off, as I am now) I am nice again - but the anxiety is creeping back in. But I'd rather be nice and anxious than the "evilwoman" that paxil seems to make me.
It's worth a try - it is effective - but watch yourself, or better yet have someone close to you watch you. 20mg worked best for me.
