My sleep problem consists of having periodic nights of complete insomnia. Sometimes if I know something important is happening the next day I get zero sleep.
I basically am looking for a sleep med that I can take periodically with as little rebound or hangover as possable.
Zopiclone has been the best so far. Its kind of stupid that I try it last, as I have been put on several benzo's (crappy sleep, major hangover, major rebound effect), several AD's, AP's etc.
I can take zopiclone once or twice a week, and it doesn't seem to affect my sleep the next night if I don't take it.
Hope it continues working on this regime.

I take it every nite..I've been able to go off it on occasion and the only thing I've experienced is one or two nights of restless sleep..

Hi,
I've been using zopiclone on and off for many years, a few words of advice, take drug holidays with this drug. If you take it every night for a couple of weeks you won't get dependent of it but it will render it comletely useless as a hypnotic, you will hardly even notice you have taken it. Not even 15mg will help then. Well you know how it works...
Regards,
Mattias

My kind of insomnia is not every day, but when it hits it hits bad. It comes at least 2 to 3 times a week, I just get a night of total insomnia. Its very distructive getting zero sleep 2-3 times a week.

Hi Link
Zopiclone is quite a good sleeping pill. It a useful drug for PRN use. As with all sedatives, daily use is likely to lead to tolerance, dependence and withdrawal symptom on stopping. Occasional use is fine though.

What I was really looking for was a med that I could use PRN, but that it would WORK.
A lot of other meds or sleeping aids don't always work, so I end up taking much more and having a much worse hangover, in addition to feeling like you're loosing the battle on your ability to keep things under control.
Like I said before my insomnia is very strange. Either I sleep well or not at all, so I am hoping that zopiclone will continue to work on a once or twice a week basis.

Link, u once said to me that zopiclone is a strange beast and is certainly is. Here in Finland, it's the firstline hypnotic, especially for shift workers. As I said, I've taken it for many years, and it works fine as long as I take "drug holidays". I'm glad it works for you.
My thoughts are with Link.Hugs, Mattias

Well so far I am feeling more rested than I would if I took lorazepam to sleep. I actually feel somewhat refreshed if I take zopiclone early enough in the evening.
Klonazepam and lorazepam leave me feeling really ickey.
Melatonin has been of help too for insomnia, but not stress induced insomnia. I am hoping to be able to cycle through a few different meds if necessary.

I just stopped taking 3mg three days ago after taking it nightly with valium and xanax and absoluelely no side effects. The pharmacist had said to take half for a while chose to just stop no problem at all. Love Phillipa ps too expensive and didn't need it

Same in the UK Mattias, alongside temazepam and zolpidem.
