Klonopin helping with other symptoms besides SA?

Posted by girlnterrupted78 on May 24, 2007, at 19:32:54

I've taken klonopin/clonazepam for social anxiety in the past (some years ago.)

I began taking it again recently. I needed it because I had to go off Celexa to start taking Nardil, and I was too afraid of the in-between period.

I noticed something strange once I started taking it: the klonopin did something really great for me besides helping with social anxiety. It helped me with anger, stress, irritability, rumination, etc, as well.

My depression had gotten so bad that I entered a state where everything bothered me. Noise, light, people's comments, PEOPLE in general, certain situations..etc.

There's a guy at work who is as lazy as one can be. Everyone talks about it, so it's not just my perception. Everytime I arrive at work, I immediately start getting irritated because I have to pick up a lot of his slack. So whenever I get to work, I begin to work myself up really bad, and I end up in a terrible mood.

Well, the klonopin sort of stopped that. Those symptoms dont sound to me like anxiety/social anxiety. So my question is, WHAT is it? I just see that my nervous system seems completely messed up and I can't handle normal daily life. Everything stresses me out.

But the day I began taking klonopin I noticed that I didn't even notice the lazy guy, I probably even picked up his slack without realizing, and people commented that I seemed more talkative than usual. I was amazed.

If anyone knows a little more about the effects of klonopin, or could give me some feedback as to why it had such an effect, I'd appreciate it. I'm just surprised that it helped in an area that is not anxiety related.

Thanks!

I recently added klonopin to my prozac regimen and I am surprised at the difference it has made.

Like you, I just simply feel better, less anxious, less irritable and more focused.

I fought the benzodiazepines because of their addictive potential, but that was balanced by my desire to live a better life.

How long will it last for us? I don't know. But it's nice to feel more normal.

A suggestion on Klonopin: Take it before bedtime so you can sleep off the peak drowsy period while still having plenty in your bloodstream the next day to get the anti-anxiety effect. Most other benzos are in and out of your system in very short order. Klonopin is different. 24 hours after you take it, 50% of your dose is still in your system.

Hi,

If you had a drink or two before work you might feel the same way. Since it's a tranquilizer it has a general calming, soothing effect, and also works as a mild muscle relaxant. So one would expect it to help with irritability, stress, etc. And because rumination can result from getting locked into a mind-body loop, Klonopin can help there, too.

Enjoy,
Johann

Everything about what you described IS anxiety related. It's a better description for GAD as opposed to SAD, but in my personal opinion, the lines between the anxiety disorders are rather blurry. Klonopin can be very helpful in GAD. For me, Klonopin just made me depressed and didn't help that much. I'm glad it is working well for you. Good luck with your switch to the MAOI.

Klonopin depresses me too hence valium. Maybe you do not depression and just an anxiety disorder? Love Phillipa
