I started taking Lexapro several years ago for anxiety attacks. It has truly made a difference in my attitude towards life. It has made me a happier person. This is my first experience with this type of drug and am hesitant to change. My husband is on Celexa. It is cheaper to buy. Would I be doing myself a disservice to get Celexa rather than Lexapro? I am not on any other medications at the time.

Personally, I don't and never will put a price on my mental health. If I had a drug that would make me like I was before anxiety/ocd I would pay almost anything for it. I would rather be poor and happy than rich and miserable. Just my two cents worth.

Agree know a former poster who tried to switch and went back to lexapro it was far superior for her. Love Phillipa

You guys have been so gracious to help a newcomer like this. My husband WAS on Lex but thought it wasn't helping him so his doc put him on Celexa. "I" can tell the difference in him. He is more testy and abrupt. Unfortunately, he can't see/feel the difference.
I will stick with what works. I am no longer Queen B*tch of the Universe. Now I am that nice old lady.

And sometimes even if/when you go back it's never the same. I've seen this story many times on PB.

When I lost my insurance, I could no longer afford Lexapro, so I asked my doc to switch me to Celexa. He seemed surprised that I knew it was the same thing. I was able to switch with absolutely no problems.
Lexapro is just a refined version of Celexa, with the inactive isomer filtered out of the formulation. You don't need a class in organic chemistry to know that Lexapro was a completely cynical marketing gimmick to extend the patent on a generic medication. Oh well, it is a good drug let them have the money.

When on Celexa I had anorgasmia. With Lexapro I do not.

I have made an appointment with my doctor to do a trial test with Celexa. I still have a whole month of Lex, but have changed my mind and want to give it a try. I will keep all of you lovely people updated as to how I feel. Maybe a daily (b)log of how I feel and what is going on.

There are samples of Lexapro available.
Get them from your doctor.
Lexapro and Celexa are interchangeable for me as far as mood.
Found Celexa to be a bit harder on the gut.
