So I figured I'd save a buck and get my zoloft refilled at Costo instead of my usual pharmacy. I've been taking generic zoloft from another manufacturer and had no problems... Well, after a couple of days of taking TEVA's zoloft I started to go through withdrawal... the whole bit. It was awful. I'd read about differences in generics, and instantly had my scrip refilled at my usual pharmacy... Within hours of taking one of their pills the withdrawal was gone... I'd only heard about the differences in generic up to this point... never actually experienced it.

My pdoc actually told me that some of her patients on generic zoloft were having major problems with it also not working, and I'm betting it's the TEVA brand.
She is an excellent doctor and director of the place where I go...she told me that generic Greenstone zoloft works, and I have found that generic greenstone xanax is the closest thing to the name brand. Hope this helps.

Greenstone is a division of Pfizer that makes the branded version of Zoloft. The Greenstone genric and the branded Zoloft are made in the same factory. Greenstone had the 6 month exclusive on generic Zoloft. It was a brillant move by Pfizer to get another six months out of Zoloft. During the first six months of a genric exclusive, the price is almost as high as the brand version. It doesn't go down till after the six months and all the other genric companies can sell their version. Thanks for the heads up on this, I take genric sertraline and have not run across the non-Greenstone version yet. Unfortunatly, I don't think I will have a choice when I order it from my mail order insurance pharmacy and they will probably go with the lowest cost TEVA version. I can't refill it at a retail pharmacy anymore, as my drug plan requires maintenance meds to be mail order. The Greenstone brand is almost the same cost as branded Zoloft, so it would be a waste to pay for it in cash. I wonder if it would be possible to just increase the dose of the TEVA version to make it work.

That's a sneaky thing to do! I pay generic price for my greenstone xanax, and again the original xanax was put out by upjohn who was bought out by pfizer, hence greenstone xanax but cheap generic price.

According to Pfizers annual report, the plan on using Greenstone for "authorized genrics" for all their branded drugs as they come off patent. I don't think they plan on using Greenstone to make genrics for other companies drugs. I imagine that the other big drug companies will do something similiar when their drugs come of patent. Or they will let a genric company have the first 6 months exclusive of the genric for a hefty payoff.

I don't get it - generic is generic as far as my insurance goes, so I would pay the $10 copay for any generic including the exclusive six month period. Are you talking about paying out of pocket?

Yes, paying out of pocket. But if you have insurance with a $10 co-pay on genrics, it is your insurance company that is paying a lot more for the the first six months of the exclusive. It would be too complex for the insurance companies to have special copayment for genrics for the first six months after it comes out. It's only six months.
