I am wondering if anyone knows if it is safe to mix anti-depressants and anti-psychotics in small doses. My problem is EXTREME anxiety and panic disorder, all related to sleep issues. I was taking 5 mg of Zyprexa for a long time, but as each week passed I felt more and more ill, almost as if I had the flu. About three weeks ago I switched back to 100 mg of doxepin, and that worked great for sleep...until a few days ago when I awoke early and had a massive anxiety attack thinking I would not be able to fall asleep again. I have been suffering with horrific anxiety ever since and am once again entertaining suicidal thoughts. I really like the sleep I get with the doxepin, but unfortunately it does nothing for panic. I'm now wondering if I can mix in a small amount of Zyprexa (2.5 mg) to control the panic and hopefully not feel the flu symptoms again. My other option is clonazepam, but it seems to stop working for sleep after a short while. Also, my quality of sleep on benzos is not very good--I remain unconscious through the night, but feel crappy the next day. I e-mailed my p-doc but he hasn't responded, and I suspect this is because he doesn't believe me when I say Zyprexa (like Seroquel) makes me feel very ill. He thinks I'm just anti-med and probably wishes I would dry up and blow away. I would love to see him try some of his own anti-psychotics--weight gain, loss of libido, dry mouth, constipation, lethargy, and a "dead" feeling inside. What a lark that would be!

I know how AP's can sap your life force from the bottom up. The doxapin sounds like a good idea perhaps you can combine it with something to contoll the panic.
You might have sucess combining doxapin with a low dose of SSRI during the day.
What about doxapin with a low dose of paxil?
Have you been on the SSRI train before?

Hi linkadge,
I, too, am wondering about Paxil as I have heard it is good for panic. Unfortunately, when I tried Zoloft several years ago my anxiety became so severe I thought I was losing my mind. Nevertheless, Paxil might be worth a try as it is a different substance. I will try to discuss it with my pdoc when I meet with him next month. This anxiety really sucks...headache, shortness of breath and a killer knot in my stomach. What the hell is going on?

Sounds like you're med sensitive I could only take and tolerate l0mg of paxil start low and see how you do and maybe a real low dose of a benzo? Funny that has helped me in sleep for over 35years. Xanax, or valium. The atypicals were not good for me. Love Phillipa good luck
