The klonopin really helped this morning

Posted by deniseuk190466 on April 17, 2007, at 15:42:46

Well because I was feeling so sh*tty last night and this morning. I took 1mg of Klonopin as an experiment and it really took the sickness, apathy, agitation away.

I felt quite good for the rest of the day, although motivation wasn't great.

It's something for me to bear in mind if all else fails but I guess klonopin is really only for short term use as it's addictive.

Denise I wouldn't worry about addiction as lmg is quite low and if it works what's the difference between that and an antidepressant as so many say they are horribly addictive. Love Phillipa

I also wouldn't worry about getting addicted to 1MG.

"Myths About Benzodiazepines:
* "Benzodiazepines are addictive": FALSE for non drug addicts with anxiety disorders.
* "Benzodiazepines are hard to quit": FALSE (for SP, not GAD). Taper slow. Can cross-taper gabapentin if desired.
* "Benzodiazepine dose keeps escalating": FALSE. Dose stabilizes after a few months with continued efficacy."

Davidson JR, Ford SM, Smith RD, Potts NL.
Psychiatry Outpatient Program, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC 27710.
J Clin Psychiatry 1991 Nov;52 Suppl:16-20

"Twenty-six socially phobic outpatients were treated with clonazepam for the relief of symptoms. At evaluation, which took place after an average of 11.3 months of continuous treatment, 22 (84.6%) patients showed good improvement and 4 (14.4%) showed no improvement or were not recovered. The dose declined over time, from a peak mean of 2.1 mg/day to a mean of 0.94 mg/day at follow-up. Side effects are described, along with individual case descriptions that illustrate important aspects of the use of benzodiazepines for the treatment of social phobia."

Thanks to both of you for the reassurance, at least I know that the Klonopin is an added tool to help if necessary, although I don't suffer from social phobia.

Ideally, I'd just like the antidepressants to work properly so I don't have to take any benzos.
