I was recently put on Ativan/Lorazepam (1 mg) for insomnia. It works beautifully.
I am just concerned about tolerance developing at this dose. My doctor and I are having me take Ambien every 3 days to try and prevent this from happening (as there is no cross tolerance between Ambien and benzodiazepines, I don't think).
How long has Ativan or other benzos worked at a fixed dose for you for sleep? What negative effects have you noticed from taking a benzo every day, if any?

Irreguardless of what others say none as long as the dose dose not increase significantly. Ambien I think is a pseudo benzo? Love Phillipa enjoy and sleep well.

it really depends. I've always heard that usually you get tolerance to the sedative effects of a given dosage after 1-2 weeks of regular use, but the anti-anxiety effects usually last on, although some people on long-term treatment need periodic adjustments. But...I've also read that the benzos designed specifically for sleep are sometimes effective for 3-6 weeks of continuous use w/o the need for a dosage increase.
I think time will tell. 1mg of Ativan really isn't a lot, so I don't think it'd be that big a deal for your doc to bump the dose a little if needed. You could also try bumping the Ambien up to 20mgs/day and see how that works out.Good luck
