Social Anxiety: Klonopin or Nardil - which one?

Posted by cerebus on April 13, 2007, at 10:54:15

I am currently on Paxil 20mg. Which would be better for SAD, Klonopin or Nardil? I am to the point, where I am becoming nervous to speak with my neighbors and other individuals. I am not schizophrenic. Dx. GAD with SAD. Thanks.

I still say benzos are the safest but I know others disagree. But that's okay with me. I love to learn the reasoning. Love Phillipa

Will Klonopin make feel sedated. I tried Xanax XR and it was very sedating. Thanks.

I recommend going with both. That tends to be the most effective way to treat social anxiety with meds. And on top of that, you should consider Cognitive Behavior Therapy as studies have shown that that combined with meds is the absolute best way to go about treating social anxiety.

Phillipa is right, benzos are 10 times safer than MAOIs unless you are a former drug addict and get hooked on benzos. I have taken Klonopin for 10 years and earlier this year was taking less than when I started all of these meds in 1997.

BUT Nardil is supposed to be THE miracle for Social Anxiety. It comes with diet restrictions, and I take it with 4mg of Klonopin and 25mg of Seroquel. Ive been on it for two weeks, and all of sudden today I was the most chatty person in the world out of nowhere (usually I am outgoing, you can tell by my posts, but not like this). I am taking it primarily for GAD.

I don't know how bad the nervousness you speak of is.

However it is entirely normal, in this atomised world (such as it is), to feel apprehensive about your neighbours.

And for very good reasons sometimes.

Our kid burned down a shed years ago, and the neighbour who helped with the fire sued us for $250,000 (knee, leaving debris around the shed).

It would be nice if things were better, that's for sure.

Other than that, Nardil.
