Hi,
Has anyone developed tolerance to an SSRI and then added an agent to the same SSRI which made it work the same as it had before.
When I say the same, I mean in exactly the same way. I know I can add something to take away the anxiety but it still doesn't give me the same effect as it did before.
Thanks....Denise

I always found that ginkgo helped SSRI's work again. Ginkgo supposedly has an ability to restore age/stress induced loss 5-ht1a receptors, which are supposedly critical for SSRI effect(?)
Anyhow it may be worth a try.

Hi Linkadge,
Do you mean Ginko Bilbao? How long did it take to have an affect and at what dose? Are you sure it wasn't placebo?
Thanks.....Denise

Actually no, I've done it a few times to provide a restored response to celexa a few times. Ususally helped for several months.
There are a few studies suggesting that ginkgo has the ability to restore 5-ht1a receptor populations.
I took the standard dose (I think 40mg x3 per day) for about 3-4 weeks, then I restarted celexa at a low dose and worked up.
I've also done it without discontinuing the celexa.
The key is to keep your SSRI dose low, while on it.

I always thought gingko was pretty benign, but read that there might be cross allergenicity with poison ivy and problems if you take aspirin.
How much would you decrease your SSRI dose if you want to remain on it and try gingko?
Thanks!
