Is Abilify any good for motivation when compared with Zyprexa?
Thanks...Denise

I'd say it could be more motivating than Zyprexa. It was so motivating I couldn't bear sit still for three days and didn't sleep at all during that time, so if you're lucky enough to escape the akathisia it could work well for avolition and apathy. Low dose amisulpride may be another option that's available to you being in the UK. I found that helped my motivation and dysthimia as well as being anxiolytic.

Hi Qunital,
Thanks for responding. Have you tried Zyprexa yourself. Just wondering how you would compare Zyprexa to amilsupride?
Thanks....Denise

Yeah, I've tried Zyprexa and it felt a little bit like a benzo to me. I remember feeling quite good on 2.5mg for a little while in terms of anxiety and mood, but it wasn't good for motivation. Amisulpride (at low doses at least) is a different beast altogether. It binds to D2 autoreceptors which blocks the feedback loop in dopamine production and release. This results in higher levels of dopamine in the synapse, which is similar to what you get with stimulants like Ritalin and Dexedrine. It felt a bit like a speedy opiate the last time I took it. I might be able to get you a sample so you don't need to ask for it (i.e. to avoid antagonizing your doctors further with drug requests that turn out to be unhelpful).

Hi,
Thanks for responding and for the feedback. I have to be careful though because I've lost a lot of weight since coming off Seroxat. The weight has just dropped off me and I was slim before.
How would I be able to get hold of a sample? Like you say I don't want to be bombarding my psychiatrist with a list of drugs so if I can do a little bit of my own experimentation it won't harm.
Denise
