Every comprehensive study that you can find online claims that Provigil has no abuse potential and can not cause euphoria.
But my friend, after hearing a rumor that it can, took 1300 MG of it (normal dose is 100 - 200 mg) and had what he described as the "most intense euphoria" he's ever felt and compared it to ecstasy. And the euphoria lasted for 24 hours!
I didn't believe him until I did a search here and found that other people have had similar results.
Not really a point to this thread, I just find it interesting how poorly these "abuse potential" studies are done.

I'd have a huge headache, extreeeeme nausea, major anxiety, excessive thirst, tremors, very very tense muscles, and would not sleep for a few days.
Did you friend have any side effects, besides euphoria? God, I can't even comprehend how badly I'd do with that.

Maybe his euphoria was self-induced by excitement at having done something so unexpected and radical?
Lots of things that have much less potential for abuse, have some potential, if one is adequately motivated. One reason that provigil is somewhat regulated (it's in one of the lighter categories for controlled substances) is that it's presumed to have some, lesser potential for abuse.
But since at usual doses, it doesn't provide much of a high-- although it's said to "brighten' mood, or maybe give you some small lift-- it's not considered the same type of danger that other, more intensely euphoric substances are.

> HonoreI'd typically agree with you, but after my friend did it, I did it myself.
The euphoria I felt was most definitely not from doing something "so radical." It was an intense, genuine euphoria comparable to ecstasy and morphine.
If the FDA knew this, I bet they would take it off the market and make it as illegal as heroin. A drug that produces intense euphoria for a whole day is unheard of, but I swear on my mother, that's what it does.

Well for goodness sake let's not tell them. -- I find provigil extremely helpful and would hate to see it become impossible to get. It helps my mood somehwat, and, more importantly, significantly improves my energy level.

because it's the official drug of the US military. Keeps the fighters sharp. Google it and see for yourself.

They could just give them some amphetamine, which I now feel has less abuse potential then Provigil. Or lots of caffeine...

God, I can't even comprehend how badly I'd do with that.Actually, as a matter of fact, the first time he tried this "experiment" he only took 800 MG and not only did he have no euphoria, but he had several of the nasty side effects you mentioned.
However, for reasons I don't understand at all, when he increased his dose to 1300 MG, all the terrible side effects vanished, and he was left with only a minor headache, which was cured by a couple ibu-profen, and the euphoria. Oh, and he did have insomnia, but he was feeling so good he didn't wanna go to sleep. :)
I can't explain why the side-effects vanished at a higher dose... drugs just work in mysterious ways.
This is the end of the thread.
