Is suicide by hanging quick and painless?

Posted by someday on March 27, 2007, at 0:37:09

Read that poisoning gives very slow and painful death and makes the body messy.

Survival rate of cutting wrist is quite high, and cutting myself is too scary and messy.

The last option I have is hanging. But no drop hanging. I have no guts to jump that long. I think what I want is partial suspension. "This method is dependent on unconsciousness produced by arterial blood flow restriction while the breath is held." according to wikipedia.

If you know any painless and quick suicide method, please let me know. Btw, no guts to jump off a bridge either.

Please call 911 or drive to the hospital. It's not over for you and you can be helped.

Please don't post about suicide plans or methods here on this board. If you're in danger, please contact 911 or take yourself to the Emergency Department at your local hospital. This site does not allow posting answers to anyone asking for help with suicide. Offering support, in order to keep you from suicide, is the goal of this site.

Additionally, the answer to your question is that hanging is one of the most horrifying means of death I can think of. There's a reason it isn't used for execution in this country anymore -- it is cruel and unusual punishment.

Please get help. If you need assistance in finding help, check the front of your telephone book for Crisis Intervention or Suicide Prevention.

Thank you.

Racer, posting as deputy for Dr Bob

I don't know where you live, but we have in place here a Mobile Crisis Intervention Service. It is usually made up of a couple of nurses and a plainsclothes policeman trained in mental health. They will come to your home or meet you in a park or wherever you feel comfortable. They will try to talk you through the crisis, to help you find ways to deal. And if you decide you want to go to the hospital, they can shorten the admission requirements for you. They are VERY friendly and are not going to drag you off against your will. They even come in just a regular car.

You can probably find out about this program through the Suicide Prevention Line at the hospital, or even through Victim Services at the Police Department. In fact, Victim Services is a great resource for any type of help you may be looking for.

Take care and God bless,
Sandy

Plus just try to think that its like a terrible terrible storm you just have to sit inside and wait for it to pass. All your feelings now, well they won't last the rest of your life, thats guaranteed. So there may even be good times ahead, you just can't see it now for all those storm clouds. Just do whatever it takes to make you safe for the time being - even if it means doing something relatively drastic like running away for a while to some new place or whatever (which I did once) or quitting your job or something.

"This too will pass" is, I think, a saying/mantra the infamous larry hoover imparted once, and I think its pretty good.

Someday,
Sounds like you're going through a particularly painful period. I've been there too- I imagine a lot of us here have. Sit it out- it does get better. Can you get the focus off your thoughts? They are the problem right now- everything else can be solved later. Don't stay alone- you'll get relief from talking to someone even if it doesn't seem so. Friends or family, or go to the ER if you don't want to get in touch with anyone you know- there will be someone you can talk to there.
Keep safe, we're thinking of you- and remember it does get better.
Ines

Many years ago a condom broke.

Today the result of that has grown up and saved (literally) thousands of lives.

Things have a way of working out. Hang on.

I'm ok now.
I deeply appreciate all your inputs. I was just so panicking, couldn't breathe, and depressed.

I gotta start this all over again, and I need plans.

Again, thank you all!

Dr. Bob rarely deletes threads, and I can't think of a reason he would delete this one.

As far as moving it, I think I agree with zen...I'm not sure there is any particular "right" place for someone to post when they need/want to talk about suicidal feelings and/or are experiencing a time of crisis.

I think it would be a good idea to have a suicide board on PBabble, for support from people they know.
