Since I have so much trouble with meds, I was wondering about Klonopin. I can take Klonopin and the only down side is the down side. It tends to make me a little depressed if I am not taking an AD.
I really need a mood stabilzer, but I can't find one that works/that I like. Hate the side effects.
Topamax & Zonegran - out - bladder & kidney issues
Depakote - nausea & munchies/hunger
Seroquel - sleepy & hungryTrileptal - not sure if it did anything except mess up my female hormones.
Afraid of Lithium, Zyprexa, etc. I am already obese.
I haven't tried Neurotonin, don't know anyting about that.
Can Klonopin be used as an anti-manic/mood stabilizer?

yeah, klonopin can be used as a mild mood stabilizer. If you just hit hypomania then it might be worth a shot. It lasts a long time and does double duty as an anti-anxiety/mood-stabilizing agent. Its not as strong as, say, Lithium (although sometimes super-high doses are used to control mania), but it does work for some people.

I started taking klonopin around 3 years ago as an anti anxiety med. My first benzo. When I had found that I am bipolar, I kept it as a mood stablizer for awhile as well.

You know I've never thought of my Rivotril (Clonazepam/Klonopin) as a mood stabilizer but I guess you could say it is in the fact that it keeps my anxiety at bay. I take 1 mg of it. I used to take 4 mg but have since had a lot of stress reduction in my lifestyle and find 1 mg just fine. I am Bipolar, I also take 100 mg of Lamictal and 10 mg of Lexapro. Just yesterday I stopped Zyprexa because of 'blunting'. We shall see if I need to try anything else.

Am I missing any other good mood stabilizers? I don't know what else I should try.

Lamictal is a great mood stabilizer as far as I'm concerned. Have you considered trying that? I take 100 mg of it and it really helps me, especially with depression.

Lamictal - I've tried 3 times. It is great, but it caused my tongue and gums to get blisters! Yikes!

Well I guess try the klonopin and see what the response is as you tolerate it. Love Phillipa

Haven't tried Keppra, Gabatril, or Neurtonin. Who knows.
